Casey is an experienced litigator who has tried jury and bench trials to verdict and taken numerous matters through the arbitration process. He is also an experienced appellate attorney having served as lead counsel on appeal in both state and federal appellate courts.

Casey handles all types of disputes including complex commercial, class action, employment, real estate, professional liability, and construction defect. He is also a well-known attorney in the areas of media law, including defamation, privacy, reporter privilege, and First Amendment jurisprudence.

After graduating from Seattle University, magna cum laude, in 2015, Casey began his legal career clerking for Senior Judge Edward F. Shea in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. During law school, he externed for Senior Judge Lonny Suko and Magistrate Judge James Hutton in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.

Casey was born and raised in eastern Washington. He returned to eastern Washington with his wife and enjoys spending time with his two daughters. Casey is an active volunteer in his community serving on non-profit boards. He is also an active member of Spokane County Search and Rescue.

Successfully represented a regional media company before the Court of Appeals on an issue of first impression and against third-party discovery attempts, which violated Washington’s Reporter Shield and Privilege Law.

Silvey v. Numerica Credit Union, 519 P.3d 920 (Wash. Ct. App. 2022)

Successfully defended financial institution before trial and appellate courts against a class action.

Peterson v. City of Yakima, et al. No. 1:18-CV-03136 (E.D. Wash 2022)

Represented client on claims of First Amendment retaliation, malicious prosecution and civil conspiracy; currently on appeal.

Pete v. City of Airway Heights, 19 Wash. App. 2d 1011 (2021)

Represented two municipalities before the Court of Appeals defending against claims challenging the constitutional and statutory authority of government officials.

Successfully defended fraud and negligent misrepresentation claims against client in a bench trial.

Represented the First Amendment Center at the Freedom Forum Institute as counsel for amicus curiae on First Amendment considerations in determining whether the Washington State Legislature should be subject to Washington’s Public Records Act.

GB Auctions Inc. v. Old Republic Ins. Co., No. 2:18-CV-00237-SMJ, 2019 WL 3948101 (E.D. Wash. Aug. 21, 2019)

Obtained summary judgment on behalf of local business against national insurance company who breached the insurance contract and attempted to enforce an arbitration provision that was unenforceable under Washington law.
